Australia’s new bilateral trade agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE)
The South Australian Dairyfarmers’ Association (SADA) today warmly welcomed Australia’s new bilateral trade agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with the expectation that it will increase SA’s existing trade with the UAE.
SADA endorsed Australia’s peak dairy industry representative body – the Australian Dairy Industry Council (ADIC) - in its support for the push for a trade agreement with the UAE.
Speaking in Adeliade today, SADA President Rob Brokenshire said.
“The Commonwealth’s work in this area is warmly welcomed and SADA congratulates Minister Farrell on the announcement, which we hope will lead to increased exports from SA to the UAE.”
“This agreement will mean more open trading conditions between the two countries and look forward to seeing the detail on what that looks like for dairy, however, so far we are aware that the tariffs on SA products will fall from 10% to zero when this deal is ratified”
“Australia sells dairy to the UAE through the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC). The GCC imports approximately 900,000 tonnes of dairy from around the world annually, making the UAE a significant consumer of what we can produce in South Australia.”
“The Government and industry in South Australia have been working in implementing the Dairy Industry Action Plan 2024-2029 here in SA and this is precisely the sort of thing that the plan endeavours to achieve.”
“This plan has a focus on exporting sustainable premium SA product into international markets and SADA has attended trade shows in the UAE in pursuit of markets for SA products. This announcement will make SA’s premium dairy products even more competitive in this potentially lucrative marketplace.”
