Member Update: June 30 Water Acquittals

As you are aware, South Australia is experiencing what, in historic terms, might be referred to as a “late break.” Concerningly, this extended autumn dry spell is affecting dairying regions on the Fleurieu Peninsula and Lower Limestone Coast areas that have generally been somewhat immune to this climatic cycle.

As a result, ongoing irrigation, a practice rarely required beyond April, has become necessary. Some irrigators have used most of their allocation and have indicated they may need to top up.

In response to a letter that SADA wrote to the Minister for Environment and Water, the Department has made available two additional staff members to fast track the process of water transfers.

To this, SADA encourages all members to ensure their water account is in order and apply for transfers before the middle of June.

This can be done through your usual channels at your local office or by contacting the DEW Berri Office at DEW.Waterlicensingberri@sa.gov.au or Phone: 08 8595 2053
