The proposed project seeks to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study to assess the viability, potential impact, and necessary requirements for establishing a Dairy Centre of Excellence within South Australia.

The Dairy Centre of Excellence aims to serve as a hub for research, development, education, and training initiatives targeted at enhancing the efficiency, competitiveness, and sustainability of the dairy sector.

The South Australian Dairy Association (SADA) is dedicated to actively engaging with the dairy industry, providing project support, and establishing a state-recognized Dairy Centre of Excellence.

The primary objectives include:

  • Continued representation of the interests of South Australian dairy farmers, offering timely and robust advice to all stakeholders in the dairy supply chain.

  • Working diligently to enhance the status and future of the dairy industry in South Australia while mitigating adverse outcomes.

  • Enabling the dairy industry to have a strong advocacy voice, fostering relationships between government, processors, interested parties, and producers to support sustainability and profitability.

  • Playing a vital role as the peak industry body, shaping policy decisions, and strengthening the industry's capacity to advocate effectively.

    Expected Deliverables:

  • Comprehensive feasibility study report outlining the findings, recommendations, and strategic roadmap for establishing a Dairy Centre of Excellence.

  • Executive summary and presentation slides summarizing the key findings and recommendations for dissemination to stakeholders.

  • Stakeholder engagement sessions to present the study findings, gather feedback, and build consensus around the proposed Dairy Centre of Excellence.
  • Evaluate the current landscape of the dairy industry within South Australia including production, processing, distribution, and associated challenges and opportunities.

  • Identify key stakeholders, including farmers, processors, researchers, and policymakers, and assess their needs and perspectives regarding the establishment of a Dairy Centre of Excellence.

  • Conduct a comparative analysis of existing dairy centres of excellence globally, focusing on successful models, best practices, and lessons learned.

  • Assess the technical, financial, and logistical requirements for establishing and operating a Dairy Centre of Excellence, including infrastructure, staffing, funding sources, and governance structure.

  • Develop a strategic roadmap outlining the phased implementation plan, timeline, milestones, and key performance indicators for the establishment and operation of the Dairy Centre of Excellence.

The project will empower dairy farmers by providing them with a voice to address challenges and advocate for their needs. Additionally, it will ensure the industry has a strong presence in the political arena, contributing to informed public perception and supporting the social license to operate.

SADA's success is measured by its impact on the national stage and its ability to maintain and expand political contacts across state and federal domains.

Success is also gauged by positive outcomes achieved and mitigation of adverse impacts.

SADA aims to expand its funding base through partnerships with allied organizations, ensuring sustainability.

Innovation efforts focus on organizational innovations, such as advancements in traceability and climate response, as well as collaborative projects to deepen advocacy efforts.

The establishment of a Dairy Centre of Excellence presents a unique opportunity to drive innovation, sustainability, and growth within the dairy industry in South Australia.

We believe that conducting a feasibility study is a crucial first step towards realizing this vision, and we are committed to delivering a high-quality study that will inform evidence-based decision-making.
